01 Information We Collect

Orbit collects only the data necessary to provide seamless, real-time location sharing and safety alerts for you and your family:

• Account Data: Mobile phone number, display name, profile avatar photo, and authentication credentials.
• Precise Location Telemetry: Latitude, longitude, altitude, movement speed, heading, and battery level transmitted via background GPS from your device.
• Circle & Social Network: Friend connections, customized nicknames, and configured Safe Places (geofences).

02 Background Location Usage

To enable real-time movement updates and automated arrival/departure notifications for your selected circle members, Orbit accesses precise GPS location in the background—even when the mobile application is closed or not in active use.

03 How We Use Information

We use the collected information exclusively to:

• Render your live position and friend markers on the interactive Orbit Map.
• Notify your circle members when you enter or leave designated Safe Places.
• Transmit instant Emergency SOS alerts to your designated emergency contacts.
• Maintain historical trip timelines for your personal review.
• Provide proactive safety alerts, such as low battery notifications.

We DO NOT sell, rent, or monetize your precise location data or personal information to third-party advertisers or data brokers under any circumstances.

04 Location Sharing Controls

You maintain full, granular control over who sees your location and for how long. Our platform defaults to privacy-first sharing principles:

• Ghost Mode / Pause: Temporarily freeze your location marker without sending a notification that you have stopped sharing.
• Granular Controls: Choose specific friends who can view your live movements versus those who can only see a fuzzy, approximate location.
• Share Link Expiry: Web share link sessions automatically expire after your configured duration (e.g. 1 hour, 8 hours, 24 hours).

05 Data Retention & Account Deletion

Live location data points are retained only for active sessions and historical timeline features configured in your account settings. If you choose to delete your account, your data will be securely purged from our active databases within 30 days.

You may request permanent account and data deletion at any time by navigating to Settings > Delete Account within the app, visiting our Account Deletion Portal, or by emailing our support team.

06 Third-Party Service Providers

Orbit utilizes trusted, enterprise-grade infrastructure providers to ensure secure app performance and data isolation:

• Google Firebase: Used for core authentication, our encrypted Firestore database, and serverless cloud functions.
• Google Maps SDK: Used for map tile rendering, geographic routing, and geocoding services within the mobile app.
• Stripe / Apple / Google: Used securely for processing Premium subscription payments. We do not store your raw credit card numbers.

07 Data Security

All location updates in transit between your device and our servers are protected using industry-standard TLS 1.3 encryption. Database documents are governed by strict Firebase Security Rules that actively prevent unauthorized access or data scraping by malicious third parties.

08 Children's Privacy

Orbit does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without verified parental consent. Children's accounts must be provisioned and managed within family circles by a verified adult administrator.

09 Your Privacy Rights (GDPR & CCPA)

Depending on your jurisdiction, you have robust legal rights regarding your data. You have the right to access, rectify, export (in a machine-readable format), or erase your personal data held by Orbit. You also have the right to object to processing and withdraw consent at any time.
